2021 has seen a surge in the number of volunteers signing up to be part of the Kilkenny Ladies Gaelic Football *county board executive. The committee has welcomed on board new Chairperson Séamus Knox whose excellent leadership qualities have already set in motion many productive actions to develop this fantastic national sport in the county. Under his guidance, and with the support and expertise of a very strong group of county executive volunteers, we can expect to hear of many positive developments in the near future for Ladies Gaelic Football in Kilkenny. Séamus, who hails from Clara,  remarked, ‘I am delighted to take on this new post and I am fully committed and look forward to putting in the work a role like this requires and deserves.’

This surge in volunteers is a testament to the rise in popularity of the sport in the county, which has seen a steady growth in player numbers in recent years. County registrar Regina Moran comments, ‘The ongoing pandemic did little in 2020 to decrease membership. In fact adult player records showed an increase in participation.’

Some of last year’s executive members have remained on in their roles for 2021 and others have taken on new roles within the committee. There has also been a welcome influx of fresh faces to the executive who will no doubt also bring fresh ideas. Thankfully, due to the hard work in the past few years of this committee in collaboration with clubs, there is already a solid foundation of positive groundwork done for this 2021 committee to build on and progress. It is fantastic to witness such commitment from volunteers to support women in sport in Kilkenny and we applaud them and all the many great volunteers throughout this great county of Kilkenny. A special mention also as always to St. Canice’s Credit Union who year in year out continue to show they are #properfans of Ladies Gaelic Football in Kilkenny.
