A thrilling comeback from a 7 point deficit with 12 minutes to go saw the Kilkenny U16 girls football team defeat Wicklow by 3 points. The match, in James Stephens threw in at 12pm and the Kilkenny side were quick to find the back of the Wicklow net with a superb goal by Kate Furlong. Wicklow were quick to respond with a few points in quick succession. It was an evenly battled out first half with Kilkenny leading by only 1 point at half time.

The second half saw Wicklow come out very strong and they steadily built up a 7 point lead. The Kilkenny side did not let the heads drop and with only 12 minutes to go they set about the difficult task of not only levelling the score but winning the match by 3 points. It was a whole team effort, led by Captain Sarah O Gorman, that saw the determined Kilkenny side take the win. The backs defended as a very solid unit and the scores were well distributed throughout the team with the 5 goals coming from 5 different players.

This is the girls second win in the Leinster U16s Championship having also defeated Carlow earlier in March. Final score was Kilkenny 5-8, Wicklow 3-11.
